BioBlitz in Tromsø

🌿 Bioblitz Tromsø: A Biodiversity Adventure! 🌊

📅 Date: June 26, 2024 📍 Location: Telegrafbukta, Tromsø 🕙 Time: Meet at the pier around 10:00 AM (low tide)

Join us for an exciting Bioblitz event in Tromsø! 🦐🐚🌿

👥 For who? Everyone! School students, parents, adults—let’s explore together! 🌟

🔍 What’s a Bioblitz? A Bioblitz is a 24-hour species discovery challenge. A concept rooted in National Geographic, the goal of Bioblitz is to find and identify as many species as possible within a defined geographical area and a short time period (usually 24 hours). On June 26, 2024, in Telegrafbukta, Tromsø, as part of the EU project MARBEFES we’ll focus on invertebrate animals in the sea. The program includes exploring the low tide around 10:00 AM, collecting and photographing specimens, and identifying species with marine biologists. 🌏🔬 Later, we’ll examine the animals and have an exhibition outside Polaria and Oceania at the entrance to Framsenteret. 🌊🔍

🌊 Why It Matters? Bioblitzes provide vital scientific data while celebrating our rich biodiversity. From tiny algae to bats and fish, every species counts! 🌎🌿

🌐 MARBEFES Project: We’re organizing BioBlitz events across four regions: Sopot (June 2023), Tromso (June 2024), Dublin, and Sardinia next years! 🌍

🔬 Sampling Methods: Non-invasive techniques, hand-grabs, and plankton sampling.

👥 Assistant on-side: Six professional institutes in Tromsø are joining forces! 🙌

🏞️ Post-Fieldwork: Visit the Fram Centre foyer (next to Siewert, the polar bear) for organism stations (benthos, algae, plankton).

Additionally, thank you for sharing the details about the MARBEFES project and the precautions regarding sampling. It’s fascinating how Bioblitz events combine scientific data collection and public engagement. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask! 😊
