Conference ‘Humans and the European Marine Environment – Adaptation to Climate and Biodiversity Change’
The Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN) held an interdisciplinary conference organized as part of the implementation of the MARBEFES project,
The event focused on climate change, biodiversity, and the multifaceted relationships between humans and the marine environment.
The conference gathered representatives of the natural sciences, humanities, economics, and the arts. The programme has been structured around three main thematic areas:
🦐 The Sea in Public Consciousness – perceptions of the sea, social expectations, and cultural narratives
🦐 The Sea in Art – how art communicated marine issues and acted as a universal language
🦐 The Sea as an Opportunity and a Resource – marine ecosystem services, resource valuation, and innovative uses of the marine environment
The accompanying event is the exhibition titled: "In the Depth. Living Seas, Living Bodies" at the State Art Gallery in Sopot.
